Police investigators across the city and province are always seeking to solve cases in their area. Recently, they apprehended four teenagers in connection with a number of kidnappings and robberies. This has prompted a discussion about juvenile crimes throughout the Ottawa region. Police continue to investigate the crimes they allege were committed by these teens, one of whom is 14.
Many of the details of this case are pending investigation by Ottawa police. They believe that other witnesses and victims have yet to come forward with information. This belief is based on a number of unclaimed cell phones which officials believe were stolen during a crime spree. They are continuing to investigate in the absence of these alleged victims.
The incidents, which police believe to be connected, took place on July 22 and Aug. 3, though it is said that some may have occurred prior to July 22. Police said the crimes were increasingly violent, but they refrained from issuing a public alert. They believed the victim and suspects had a previous relationship and attacks were not random.
Police still lack some evidence and are seeking additional video footage as well as victims for their investigation. They have apprehended the 14-year-old and other teenagers alleged to have participated. As with any case in the province of Ontario, the accused have a right to defend themselves against any charges that may come.
For young people accused of juvenile crimes, the stakes can be very high. A fair investigation and proper defense are critical to ensure justice is served in these and any other cases. Those who are involved in investigations such as these and need guidance throughout the criminal justice process can benefit from the council of an Ottawa lawyer.
